Pandit Nehru Built the Nation, Narendra Modi is Ruining it: Sukhjinder Randhawa

Chandigarh, June 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa strongly objected to comparisons being made between India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and the current Prime Minister. He said that Pandit Nehru went to jail several times and endured police beatings during the struggle for India’s independence. Comparing him with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inappropriate. Furthermore, during the Gurdwara Reform Movement in Punjab, Nehru was also imprisoned in Jaito Jail in Faridkot.

Randhawa said that Pandit Nehru was one of the principal architects of modern India and that, among all states, Punjab benefited immensely from his vision. He stated that it was the vision of Pandit Nehru and Pratap Singh Kairon that led to the construction of the Bhakra Dam in Punjab.

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) was established, and several engineering colleges were built. Most importantly, an Agricultural University was established in Punjab, which not only transformed farming in the state but also provided a new direction to agriculture across the country. Today, the entire world recognizes its significance.

The former Deputy Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is engaged only in vote-cutting politics. According to him, votes are divided according to Modi’s wishes, and only those nominations are accepted that Modi wants. He alleged that the freedom which Congress secured through immense sacrifices is now being undermined, and that Modi is bent on destroying the country. If anyone is held responsible for the country’s ruin, Randhawa said, it will be Prime Minister Modi.
