Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has criticised the recently released trailer of the upcoming epic film Ramayana, questioning its casting, visual effects, costumes and overall presentation.
Reacting to the trailer on social media platform X, Chaturvedi said the promotional material did not justify the anticipation surrounding the film.
“Now I know why they kept the Ramayana promo under wraps, simply because it is hardly worth the hype they tried to create. Misplaced casting, VFX, acting, bizarre costumes and music which could have been better. The DD Ramayana will last generations clearly,” she wrote.
The trailer, unveiled on Thursday, presents a visually intensive retelling of the Indian epic with extensive use of computer-generated imagery (VFX). Since its release, it has generated mixed reactions from viewers, with opinions divided over its visual style and creative choices.
Ahead of the trailer launch, the makers had organised a special event titled ‘Pratham Sankalp’ in New Delhi as a preview of the film. The event marked the ceremonial beginning of the film’s journey from India to global audiences and brought together the principal cast for the first time.
During the programme, actor Ranbir Kapoor was seen seeking the blessings of veteran actor Sunny Deol and poet Kumar Vishwas by touching their feet before taking the stage.
The film’s trailer launch, originally scheduled for July 24, was reportedly postponed in view of nationwide student protests demanding the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Ramayana is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 8, 2026.
