Karni Sena Claims Activist Died After Water Cannon Hit; Police Deny Force Caused Death

Jaipur, August 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shri Rajput Karni Sena National President Mahipal Singh Makrana on Tuesday alleged that activist Devraj Singh Palada died after being hit by a high-pressure police water cannon during a protest against the UGC Bill in Jaipur. He accused the police and administration of using excessive force against demonstrators and demanded strict action against those responsible.

Addressing an emergency press conference at Rajput Sabha Bhavan, Makrana claimed that Devraj Singh, a resident of Palada village in Didwana-Kuchaman district, was participating in the Karni Sena rally when a powerful water jet struck him directly on the chest near Kalwar Road and Galav Kunda.

According to Makrana, Devraj’s health deteriorated immediately after the incident and he was shifted to SMS Hospital, where he later died during treatment.

Calling the incident a case of “excessive use of force”, Makrana demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the deceased activist’s family, a government job for one family member, and action against police personnel and administrative officials allegedly involved in the incident. He also sought an inquiry into the role of the Jaipur Collector and senior police officials.

Makrana said the protesters had gathered peacefully and within the constitutional framework. He alleged that women and elderly participants were also targeted during the police action and claimed that there was a disconnect between discussions being held by senior officials with protest leaders and the actions of personnel on the ground.

Announcing the organisation’s future course of action, Makrana said the Karni Sena would launch a statewide door-to-door campaign to highlight what it described as the adverse impact of the UGC Bill. He also warned that the organisation would oppose the government’s policies during the upcoming Panchayati Raj and municipal elections in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, Jaipur Police rejected allegations that Devraj Singh died due to a police lathi-charge or excessive force. Police officials said permission for the rally had been granted up to the Collectorate and alleged that some protesters attempted to move beyond the approved route, following which minimum force was used to maintain law and order.

Police maintained that no lathi-charge was carried out before the procession reached the Collectorate. Regarding Devraj Singh’s death, officials said the matter was under investigation and preliminary information suggested that his health deteriorated during the rally before he was taken for medical treatment.

The police said the exact cause of death would be established after a detailed inquiry.
