From Computer Operator to Haryana CM: Nayab Singh Saini Recalls His Political Journey

Chandigarh, August 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday recalled his journey from operating a computer at the BJP office in Panchkula to becoming the state’s Chief Minister, telling young entrepreneurs that his rise was built on persistence, hard work and learning from setbacks.

Speaking at the ‘Gen-H Yuva Udyami Chaupal’ at Gurugram University, Saini said he could not have imagined in 1996, when he was working with a computer at the BJP office, that he would eventually occupy the state’s top political post.

He described the journey as one without shortcuts. “My journey had no lift, only stairs,” Saini said, adding that there were occasions when he could not even see the next step but continued moving forward.

The Chief Minister recalled losing the 2009 Assembly election. Rather than allowing the defeat to define him, he said he returned to public service the very next day with renewed determination. He had no position or assurance of another electoral opportunity at the time, but chose to continue working among people.

That persistence, he said, eventually contributed to his decisive electoral victory in 2014, after which he was given ministerial responsibility. His subsequent political journey included serving as a Member of Parliament, Haryana BJP president and, ultimately, Chief Minister.

Saini also recalled his early association with the BJP’s Haryana organisation when Narendra Modi was the party’s in-charge for the state and had sent a computer to the party office in Panchkula.

Interacting with young entrepreneurs, Saini addressed questions on political advancement without a family legacy, failure, technology, sports, employment, drug abuse, startups, governance and family life. He urged youngsters not to treat failure as their identity, but to allow their work and consistency to define them.

Referring to the participants as “Gen-H”, he expanded the term to “Gen-HB — Haryana-Bharat”, describing the younger generation as the “heartbeat of India”.

Saini said his guiding principle had remained “Nation First”, maintaining that political positions were never his primary objective. He attributed the opportunities he received to the support of people, his commitment to public service and the trust placed in him by the BJP.

The programme was streamed live across more than 4,000 institutions.
