At least three workers were killed and another critically injured after shuttering collapsed at an under-construction commercial mall in Rukmani Vihar, Vrindavan, on Friday, triggering a rescue operation by police, fire brigade personnel and other emergency teams.
The incident occurred in the Vrindavan Kotwali area while construction work was underway at an Omaxe commercial site. Several workers were present at the location when the temporary shuttering supporting a section of the structure suddenly gave way, trapping workers beneath the debris.
Mathura SP City Rajeev Kumar Singh said a chajja was being constructed at the site and shuttering work was in progress when the structure collapsed.
“Rukmani Vihar has an Omaxe commercial site where construction work is going on. A chajja was being constructed, and shuttering work was underway. Suddenly, the shuttering collapsed, and information was received that four masons were trapped under it,” Singh said.
Police and rescue personnel rushed to the site after receiving information about the accident. Teams worked to remove the debris and ascertain whether any other workers remained trapped.
Several injured workers were taken to hospital. One body was initially recovered from the site, while the latest information confirmed that three people had died and one person was critically injured.
Police, fire brigade personnel and other rescue teams remained deployed at the site as relief operations continued. Authorities have also begun an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the collapse, including the failure of the temporary support structure.
