Punjab Police Conducts 648 Raids on Day 213 of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, Arrests 424

Punjab Police conducted 648 raids across the state on Thursday as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign against gangster networks, arresting 424 people and taking preventive action against another 226 individuals, according to an official release.

The statewide campaign was launched by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the objective of making Punjab free of gangster-related activities. Police teams from all districts are conducting coordinated operations with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF).

On the 213th day of the campaign, police arrested 424 individuals and recovered seven weapons. The cumulative number of arrests under the campaign has now reached 63,065, the police said.

The day’s operations also resulted in the arrest of 12 proclaimed offenders (POs). Preventive action was initiated against 226 other individuals, according to the release.

Punjab Police has also urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline: 93946-93946.

Meanwhile, the police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 538th day. During the day’s operations, 52 alleged drug smugglers were arrested and 6.2 kg of heroin, 50 grams of opium, 150 intoxicant pills and Rs 4,900 in drug money were recovered.

With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has risen to 76,253 in 538 days, the police said.

As part of its de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts, Punjab Police also counselled and persuaded nine individuals to undergo treatment for drug addiction on the day.
