Actor Kalki Koechlin has once again embraced experimental fashion, stepping away from conventional fabrics for an unusual white dress made entirely from plastic bags.
Koechlin shared a series of photographs on social media documenting the making of the unconventional outfit. In her post, she credited designer Naseeb and photographer Rebecca D’Costa for bringing the concept to life.
“Ever wondered what to do with all your little white plastic bags? Make a dress of course,” Koechlin wrote, explaining that the project began with a studio shoot before the team removed their makeup and headed into the rain for another set of photographs.
She also shared a note from the designer explaining the inspiration behind the creation, along with a photograph of Naseeb’s mother, described as the original muse for the dress.
The fashion experiment comes amid Koechlin’s longstanding association with unconventional and environmentally conscious style. She has previously collaborated with Hidesign on a sustainable handbag collection, while her recent public comments have also highlighted simple ways of reducing plastic use.
Born in Pondicherry, Koechlin developed an early interest in theatre before making her Hindi film debut as Chanda in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D in 2009. She subsequently appeared in films including Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, That Girl in Yellow Boots, Ek Thi Daayan, Gully Boy and Margarita with a Straw, for which she won the National Film Award – Special Jury Award.
She has also appeared in streaming projects including Made in Heaven, Sacred Games and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Her recent screen work includes the paranormal series Bhay: The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery.
