The Punjab State Chapter of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), in association with the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and the Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF), Northern Region, organised an awareness session on the National Pension System (NPS) in Jalandhar to promote retirement planning and financial security among the MSME workforce.
Titled “Building a Secure Future for MSME Workforce”, the session brought together industry leaders, trade representatives, entrepreneurs and MSMEs to discuss the long-term benefits of NPS for both employers and employees.
Sanjeev Juneja, Convener, Jalandhar Zone, PHDCCI, in his welcome address, highlighted the contribution of small businesses and trade units to regional economic growth. He emphasised the need for structured welfare and social security mechanisms to strengthen workforce retention and stability.
Abhishek Dhiman, Assistant Manager, PFRDA, outlined the authority’s vision of expanding pension and social security coverage, particularly among MSMEs and workers in the unorganised sector. He stressed the importance of systematic retirement planning and wider adoption of NPS.
PHDCCI officials Sumit Kumar, Assistant Secretary, and Gursharan Singh, Resident Officer, briefed participants on the chamber’s history, initiatives and activities undertaken by its Punjab State Chapter to support industries, MSMEs, startups and entrepreneurs.
They also interacted with participants during the open-house session and addressed queries concerning PHDCCI initiatives.
Jasjit Singh Bedi, Vice Chairman, IIF Chandigarh Chapter and Member, PHDCCI, proposed the vote of thanks. He said NPS could serve as an affordable and effective social security instrument for improving workforce stability in the MSME sector.
The session provided an opportunity for participants to deliberate on financial security and long-term retirement planning for employees, with discussions focusing on the need for greater awareness and adoption of structured pension solutions among MSMEs.
