Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu has directed government departments to accelerate measures aimed at reducing the compliance burden on citizens and improving ease of living through deregulation.
Reviewing the progress of the exercise on Friday, Sandhu said the interests and convenience of ordinary citizens should remain at the centre of the reforms. He called for faster approvals, reduced red tape and more efficient delivery of government services.
“Reviewed the progress of Deregulation & Compliance Reduction in Delhi today, with the ease of the common citizen at the heart of this exercise,” Sandhu said in a post on X.
He directed all departments to complete the exercise “swiftly and efficiently”, stressing that each reform should translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of Delhi residents.
Sandhu said the initiative was aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living, with the objective of building a people-centric “Viksit Dilli”.
The review came a day after Sandhu met Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to assess community policing initiatives, public welfare platforms and targeted safety measures across the National Capital Territory.
The meeting focused particularly on the safety and welfare of senior citizens and women commuters. Sandhu reviewed the functioning and adoption of the Delhi Police’s dedicated mobile application for senior citizens, including registrations, regular outreach and beat-level interaction between police personnel and elderly residents.
He stressed the need for prompt grievance redressal, effective emergency assistance and regular visits by local police personnel to senior citizens. He also directed a comprehensive reassessment of the number of senior citizens in Delhi so that the mobile application could be expanded accordingly.
The L-G also reviewed the functioning of specialised ‘Shishtachar Squads’, which are deployed to curb eve-teasing, prevent street harassment and maintain public order around educational institutions, transit hubs and crowded marketplaces.
