BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of ‘Politics of Anarchy’ Over Police Station Sit-In

New Delhi, August 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The BJP on Friday accused Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of engaging in the “politics of anarchy” after he staged a sit-in outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police at Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station over the alleged refusal to register an FIR in a student’s complaint.

Gandhi was later joined by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Congress has alleged that a student suffered pellet-gun injuries during protests at Jantar Mantar last month demanding education reforms and that police had refused to register an FIR in the matter.

Addressing a press conference, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticised Gandhi for holding the protest at a police station without what he described as prior permission or notice.

“It is very unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition, and now, instead of democratic politics, he engages in the politics of anarchy,” Prasad said.

He also referred to Gandhi’s earlier sit-in near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence during the student protests in Delhi, alleging that the Congress leader was disregarding law and order by staging demonstrations at locations of his choice.

Prasad claimed that a complaint related to the incident had already been registered and was under investigation. He further said that victims had approached the Supreme Court, which had constituted a high-powered committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge and comprising two other judges, a former CBI Director and another senior official.

Whether pellet-gun firing took place would also be examined by the committee, he said.

The BJP leader also alleged that Gandhi’s latest protest was intended to divert public attention from the Congress Working Committee’s resolution concerning the singing of the national song, Vande Mataram.

Prasad drew a parallel between the Congress’ present position and its 1937 decision, which he said was taken under pressure from the Muslim League and resulted in the party deciding to sing only the first two stanzas of the national song.

He alleged that the Congress was attempting to shift attention because it was facing political difficulties over the issue.

“The law will take its own course, but sitting on a dharna at a police station that too for a month-old case, reflects that this is ‘politics of competition’. We condemn this act,” Prasad said.

He further accused the Congress under Gandhi’s leadership of becoming “anarchic”.
