The Bihar government on Tuesday announced a major reshuffle of IPS officers, changing police leadership in several districts and reassigning senior officials to key positions in vigilance, prohibition, anti-terrorism, human rights, civil defence and other specialised wings.
The reshuffle covers IPS officers from the 2010 to 2022 batches. Among the prominent changes, 2018-batch officer Puran Kumar Jha has been transferred from his post as Siwan Superintendent of Police to Bihar Police Headquarters in Patna, where he is awaiting a fresh assignment.
The transfer comes against the backdrop of the Siwan student-protest controversy involving the alleged use of an AK-47 during an incident on July 25. A constable was subsequently suspended, while opposition parties had also demanded action against senior police officials. The move is likely to draw political attention as the RJD has made the Siwan episode a key issue ahead of its August 19 Lok Bhawan March focused on student and youth concerns.
Among the DIG-level changes, 2010-batch officer Anil Kumar has been appointed DIG, Prohibition and NNTF (Noose and Narcotics Task Force), Bihar, after serving as DIG, Finance and Technical Services.
Mrityunjay Kumar Chaudhary, also from the 2010 batch, has been posted as DIG, Civil Defence, from the Vigilance Investigation Bureau. Rajiv Ranjan-2, a 2012-batch officer, will serve as DIG, Special Vigilance Bureau, after his previous posting as DIG, Human Rights.
Ajay Kumar Pandey, a 2012-batch officer, has been transferred as DIG, Finance and Technical Services from DIG, Prohibition and NNTF. Amir Javed has been appointed DIG, Vigilance Investigation Bureau, moving from DIG, Weaker Sections and Women’s Cell, CID.
Mithilesh Kumar has been appointed Commandant, Bihar Special Armed Police-9, Jamalpur, from his previous assignment as SP in the Economic Offences Unit. Sushil Kumar has been given additional charge as DIG, Human Rights while continuing as DIG, Legal Affairs and Rules.
New District Police Chiefs
Several districts have also received new police chiefs. Hriday Kant, a 2015-batch IPS officer, has been appointed SP, Nalanda, after serving as SP with the Bihar ATS.
Bharat Soni, a 2019-batch officer, has been appointed SP, Siwan, moving from Nalanda. Roshan Kumar, also a 2019-batch officer, has been posted as SSP, Saran, after serving as SP, Rohtas.
Raj, a 2019-batch officer, has been appointed SP, Rohtas, from his previous posting as SP, Bhojpur. Awadhesh Dixit, another 2019-batch officer, has been appointed SP, Bhojpur, after serving as SP (Personnel-1) at Bihar Police Headquarters.
Garima, a 2022-batch IPS officer, has been appointed SP, Weaker Sections and Women’s Cell, CID. She previously served as Commandant, Bihar Special Armed Police-9, Jamalpur.
The reshuffle brings substantial changes across Bihar’s police leadership, particularly in sensitive districts and specialised units dealing with vigilance, prohibition, terrorism, organised crime and human rights.
