Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will inaugurate the ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian-2026’ at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium in Bathinda on September 5, with national and international-level sportspersons and popular Punjabi singers expected to be part of the opening ceremony.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman announced the programme during a meeting held to review preparations for the sporting event. A QR code for participation in ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian-2026’ was also released on the occasion.
Bathinda has been chosen to host the inaugural ceremony this year. Dhiman said elaborate arrangements were being made to make the event memorable and ensure convenience for participating athletes and spectators.
Sportspersons who have brought recognition to Punjab at national and international competitions will participate in a special march-past during the ceremony. Prominent personalities associated with the sporting world and athletes will also attend the event.
Punjabi singers Gurdas Maan and Kulwinder Billa will make special appearances at the opening ceremony.
Dhiman directed officials of the concerned departments to complete all arrangements well in advance, with particular emphasis on the convenience and safety of athletes and visitors.
The police were instructed to make adequate arrangements for parking, traffic management and security for guests, spectators and participants. The School Education Department was asked to ensure drinking water, refreshments and transportation facilities for students who will present cultural performances during the ceremony.
The Bathinda Municipal Corporation was directed to ensure cleanliness at the stadium and surrounding areas.
The 2026 edition of ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ will feature participation from athletes below 16 years of age and those above 60, according to the Deputy Commissioner.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kanchan, Assistant Commissioner Gurjinder Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Phul Balkaran Singh Mahal, SP Headquarters Jagdish Bishnoi, District Sports Officer Rupinder Singh and DSP Gurpreet Singh were among the officials present at the meeting.
