The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has alleged that nine civilians have been killed and dozens of people have been forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces in Balochistan’s Nushki district amid what it described as prolonged military restrictions in the region.
Expressing concern over the situation, the BNM claimed that Nushki has been under an intense military blockade for several months, affecting normal life and restricting the movement of residents.
“Pakistan Army has stripped civilians of their freedom of movement, effectively turning the entire region into an ‘open-air prison’,” the group said in a statement.
The organisation alleged that transportation services have been severely affected, with passenger and cargo vehicles being prevented from entering or leaving the area. It further claimed that even ambulances carrying critically ill patients were stopped from moving towards hospitals.
The BNM said that during the past week, at least nine people were killed and dozens were allegedly subjected to enforced disappearances. It also claimed that the restrictions have led to shortages of medicines and essential supplies, impacting children, elderly people and patients.
The group further alleged that security forces used the curfew conditions to enter shops in local markets, loot businesses and damage civilian property.
Calling the restrictions a form of collective punishment, the BNM alleged that such measures reflected a broader pattern of human rights violations in Balochistan.
The organisation also claimed that the Pakistani Army was facing challenges in dealing with the Baloch movement and accused it of using propaganda to portray operations against civilians as successes.
The BNM urged people in Balochistan to remain resilient and called on the international community to take note of the situation.
Last week, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) also criticised the restrictions and curfew in Nushki, alleging that they represented a continuation of policies aimed at collectively punishing the Baloch population. The committee appealed to the international community to intervene over what it described as serious human rights concerns.
