Jorhat Stallions captain Swarupam Purkayastha produced a match-winning unbeaten knock of 99 runs to guide his team to an eight-wicket victory over Barak Legends in the Assam Premier League (APL) 2026 at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Thursday.
Chasing a target of 171, Purkayastha anchored the innings brilliantly and took the Stallions across the finish line with 10 balls to spare. His 58-ball unbeaten innings, featuring 11 fours and four sixes, also became the highest individual score by a batter in the tournament so far.
Earlier, Barak Legends, after opting to bat first, posted 170/4 in their 20 overs, riding on valuable contributions from Bishal Saha, captain Sibsankar Roy and Aman Singh.
Saha led the charge with a fluent 71 off 60 balls, hitting four boundaries and four sixes, while Roy provided momentum with a quick 45 off 26 deliveries. Aman Singh added 29 runs to keep the scoreboard moving during the middle overs.
However, the Legends lost their rhythm towards the end of the innings, losing three wickets between the 17th and 20th overs, including the dismissals of Saha and Roy. For Jorhat Stallions, Rajjak Uddin Ahmed, Rajdeep Handique and Bishal Newar picked up a wicket each, while Abhilash Gogoi impressed with figures of 1/11 in two overs.
In response, Jorhat Stallions made a strong start, with wicketkeeper-batter Erik Roy scoring 41 off 26 balls, including five fours and two sixes. The opening partnership helped Stallions register the highest powerplay score of the tournament at 61/0.
Roy was dismissed by Mohit Thakur in the eighth over, after which Purkayastha took complete control of the chase. He combined with Rajveer Singh for an 83-run partnership before Rajveer was dismissed for 20 in the 18th over.
Abhilash Gogoi then contributed an unbeaten nine off four balls, helping Purkayastha finish the chase as Jorhat Stallions reached 174/2 in 18.2 overs.
