Actress Mrunal Thakur has issued a strong warning against the creation and circulation of deepfake content using her identity, stating that any further misuse of her likeness will invite legal action.
The actress took to social media on Tuesday to address the growing misuse of artificial intelligence-generated content and cautioned users against creating or sharing manipulated material featuring her image or identity.
In a note posted on her official social media account, Mrunal wrote: “Creating or sharing deepfake content using my likeness is illegal and unacceptable. Consider this your formal notice to stop immediately. Any further misuse of my identity will result in legal action.”
While issuing the warning, the actress did not specify the particular deepfake content, video or account that prompted her statement.
The advisory comes amid increasing concerns over the misuse of AI tools to generate realistic but fabricated images, videos and audio clips of public figures, raising issues related to privacy, misinformation and digital identity.
Mrunal Thakur has remained in the spotlight in recent weeks after a video of her energetic dance performance at a friend’s wedding went viral on social media.
The actress began her acting career with the television serial Kumkum Bhagya, where she portrayed Bulbul, the younger sister of the lead character played by Sriti Jha, before successfully transitioning to films.
Over the years, she has earned appreciation for her performances in films including Love Sonia, Super 30, Batla House, Sita Ramam, Hi Nanna, The Family Star and Son of Sardaar 2.
Mrunal was last seen in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, co-starring Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde. The film marked the final directorial venture of veteran filmmaker David Dhawan, who had announced at its trailer launch that it would be his last film as a director.
