An Air India flight operating from Phuket to Delhi encountered turbulence during its journey on Monday, leaving a small number of passengers and crew members with minor injuries, the airline said.
Flight AI2379 experienced a brief turbulence-related incident during the cruise phase of the flight, resulting in a temporary change in altitude. The aircraft later landed safely at Delhi airport, and all passengers and crew members disembarked without further complications.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed that there were no reports of serious injuries. However, some passengers and crew members who suffered minor injuries were taken to a medical facility at the airport for precautionary examination and treatment.
“Air India confirms that flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on 4 August, experienced a brief in-flight turbulence-related event during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude,” the airline spokesperson said.
The flight reportedly experienced a sudden drop of around 300 feet after encountering the turbulence. The airline, however, did not disclose the exact number of people who were injured or provide further details about the nature of the turbulence.
Air India said its airport team and medical personnel were assisting those affected and extending necessary support to passengers and crew members.
The airline added that it was cooperating with the relevant authorities as part of the investigation into the turbulence event.
“The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain Air India’s highest priority. We are providing all necessary support to those affected and are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities as part of the investigation,” the spokesperson said.
The incident comes amid renewed focus on passenger safety measures and handling of in-flight turbulence events, which can pose risks when passengers or crew members are not securely seated during sudden altitude changes.
