Delhi-NCR Gets Rain Relief; IMD Issues Red Alert for Patiala, Orange Warnings Across Several States

New Delhi, August 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Moderate rainfall brought welcome relief to residents of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, bringing down temperatures and easing the humid conditions that had persisted over the past several days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the national capital through the day, with dense cloud cover expected to keep the weather pleasant. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to hover between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Alongside the forecast for Delhi, the IMD issued district-wise nowcast warnings for several states, cautioning residents about thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds likely over the next two to three hours.

A Red Warning has been issued for Patiala district in Punjab, where severe weather conditions are expected. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of around 60 kmph and heavy rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

An Orange Warning has also been issued for several districts across the country, indicating a high likelihood of thunderstorms with lightning, winds of 40-60 kmph and moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 5 to 15 mm per hour or more.

In Punjab, the districts under the Orange Warning are Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur and SAS Nagar.

The alert also covers Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Raebareli and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh; Kasaragod in Kerala; Dakshin Kannada, Shivamogga and Udupi in Karnataka; Bhind, Datia, Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur Kalan and Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh; Jiribam, Kamjong, Noney, Senapati and Tamenglong in Manipur; Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal; Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon and Wokha in Nagaland; Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli and Sivasagar in Assam; Ambala, Faridabad, Gurugram, Kaithal and Kurukshetra in Haryana; and Bageshwar, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.

The weather department has urged residents in all affected districts to remain vigilant, avoid taking shelter under trees or weak structures during thunderstorms, check road and traffic conditions before travelling, stay away from flood- and landslide-prone areas, and follow advisories issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies.

The IMD said updated forecasts, including yellow warnings and district-wise nowcasts, are available through its official weather portal as authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation.
