Veteran actress Lisa Ray has candidly spoken about embracing her identity as an introvert, revealing that despite spending more than three decades in front of the camera, social interactions often leave her emotionally exhausted.
In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, the actress said she no longer feels the need to apologise for seeking solitude and has come to accept introversion as an integral part of who she is. Reflecting on her journey, Lisa recalled that even as a teenager she preferred professions involving minimal human interaction, such as writing or scuba diving, before eventually choosing acting.
The actress said that in her 50s she is no longer trying to change herself but is instead focused on understanding and accepting her personality. She added that she enjoys reading, walking in nature and meaningful conversations, while small talk and crowded environments tend to drain her energy.
In the accompanying video, Lisa admitted she would “happily live in a cave” if given the choice, saying she often questions why she continues to work in front of the camera despite her introverted nature. However, she believes introverts possess the unique “power of quiet” and hopes to bring that authenticity into her work and public conversations.
Encouraging others to embrace their personalities, she also recommended Susan Cain’s acclaimed book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, describing it as a work that helps readers understand and accept themselves.
Professionally, Lisa Ray began her career as a model before making her acting debut in the 1994 Tamil film Nethaji. She rose to prominence with the 2001 thriller Kasoor and later earned international recognition through films such as Water, I Can’t Think Straight and The World Unseen. Water also received an Academy Award nomination in the Best International Feature Film category. More recently, she has appeared in the streaming series Four More Shots Please!.
