Indian shuttlers Unnati Hooda and Tanvi Sharma advanced to the women’s singles semifinals of the Taipei Open 2026 on Friday, keeping alive India’s hopes of an all-Indian final at the BWF Super 300 tournament.
Unnati produced a composed display to defeat compatriot and eighth seed Devika Sihag 23-21, 21-16 in an all-Indian quarterfinal that lasted 42 minutes. The victory marked the world No. 28’s first BWF World Tour semifinal appearance of the 2026 season after a difficult start in which she failed to progress beyond the opening round in her previous World Tour events.
Tanvi Sharma also booked her place in the last four after overcoming fourth seed Supanida Katethong of Thailand 21-15, 18-21, 21-14 in a hard-fought 54-minute contest. The world No. 34 reached her second BWF Super 300 semifinal of the season, having earlier made the last four at the Orleans Masters.
With the two Indians placed in opposite halves of the draw, the possibility of an all-Indian final remains alive.
In the semifinals, Unnati will face sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam, while Tanvi will take on fifth seed and home favourite Huang Yu-Hsun of Chinese Taipei.
Both Unnati and Tanvi are part of India’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games, and their performances in Taipei are expected to boost their confidence ahead of the continental event.
India’s challenge in the men’s singles ended with Kiran George’s quarterfinal defeat to Japan’s fourth seed Yudai Okimoto, who won 21-12, 21-10. Earlier, HS Prannoy exited in the Round of 16, while India’s men’s doubles campaign had concluded in the opening round.
