The Kuwait Army on Friday said it detected and destroyed “hostile drones” that entered the country’s airspace and targeted several vital and military facilities.
The military said falling debris from the destroyed drones caused material damage, but no casualties were reported. It attributed the drone attacks to Iran, according to reports.
The Kuwait Army did not disclose the number of drones intercepted, the specific locations targeted or the extent of the damage caused.
The incident comes amid renewed tensions in the region, with fresh exchanges of strikes between the United States and Iran after a brief pause. A new front involving Yemen’s Houthis and Saudi Arabia has also emerged during the ongoing escalation.
The Kuwaiti military had earlier reported that one person was killed in northern Kuwait during an Iranian attack on Thursday. The deceased was identified as a Nepalese driver working with a subcontractor of a Chinese company. The attack also caused damage to company property, while no Chinese nationals were reported injured.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had claimed responsibility for attacks on US-linked facilities in Kuwait, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base. The IRGC claimed that drone strikes damaged military infrastructure, including drone facilities and fuel storage areas.
The latest developments add to growing security concerns in the Gulf region amid continued military exchanges involving Iran and US-linked targets.
