A 56-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Border Security Force (BSF) was found dead with a bullet injury in the Bonyar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as ASI Shiv Dutt, son of late Shimru Singh, a resident of Shoran in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said ASI Shiv Dutt was posted with the 175 Battalion of BSF and was serving with E Company in the Bonyar area. He was found dead with a bullet mark, and preliminary suspicion suggests that he may have died after a gunshot from his service rifle.
A police team from Boniyar Police Station reached the spot after receiving information and started an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death.
Officials said further details would emerge after completion of the investigation.
The BSF is deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for various security duties, including border management, anti-infiltration operations and support to the local security network.
