Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday paid tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh on his 87th martyrdom day and said the state government was committed to fulfilling the aspirations of freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the nation.
Addressing a state-level function at Sunam Udham Singh Wala, the Chief Minister said Shaheed Udham Singh’s patriotism, courage and sacrifice would continue to inspire generations to work for the country.
Earlier, Bhagwant Mann paid floral tributes and laid a wreath at the memorial of Shaheed Udham Singh.
Paying homage through a post on X, the Chief Minister said Shaheed Udham Singh, who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, would always remain a source of inspiration because of his sacrifice for the honour and dignity of the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Bhagwant Mann said India’s freedom struggle was built on the sacrifices of countless brave men and women who fought against British rule and envisioned a society based on equality and welfare.
He said Shaheed Udham Singh had taken a historic step by holding Michael O’Dwyer accountable for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre at Caxton Hall in London.
The Chief Minister said the Udham Singh Memorial has become a place where people from across the country and abroad come to pay their respects and draw inspiration from the revolutionary’s life.
He said the sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh strengthened the nation’s resolve against British imperialism and would continue to motivate youth to dedicate themselves to public service.
Senior AAP leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
