A schoolchild lost his life and at least six others were injured after a school van collided with a parked truck in Rajasthan’s Banswara district on Wednesday morning, police said.
The accident occurred in the Thikariya area when the van was carrying students to school. The force of the impact crushed the front portion of the vehicle, trapping several children inside.
Hearing cries for help, local residents and passersby rushed to the scene and rescued the injured students before alerting the police. Personnel from the Raja Talab police station reached the spot and, with the assistance of locals, shifted the injured children to the District Hospital for treatment.
The deceased child has been identified as Hayan Basaniya, son of Dr. Rajendra Basaniya and a resident of the Housing Board area. Another child from the same family also sustained injuries in the accident.
Hospital authorities said multiple students were admitted to the emergency ward, with some reported to be in critical condition. Among the seriously injured is Ranjan Nema, son of Rudra Nema, who was referred to a hospital in Udaipur after his condition deteriorated.
The sudden arrival of several injured children created tense scenes at the District Hospital, where doctors, nurses and emergency staff immediately began treatment. Medical teams performed life-saving procedures, including CPR on critically injured students, while stabilising others before further care.
The incident has left families devastated, with anxious parents and relatives rushing to the hospital after learning of the accident.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether negligence played any role. Further details are awaited.
