A severed human head was discovered on a cricket ground in Bengaluru’s Kodathi area on Wednesday morning, prompting a major police investigation into what authorities suspect is a brutal murder.
The gruesome discovery was made by a group of boys who had reached the ground to play cricket under the jurisdiction of the Varthur Police Station. On noticing the severed head lying on the field, they immediately informed the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and carried out a preliminary inspection. However, despite a search of the surrounding area, the remaining parts of the victim’s body had not been traced at the time of filing this report.
Investigators have launched a detailed probe and are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
According to preliminary findings, police suspect the severed head may have been transported to the ground on a motorcycle. Investigators found tyre marks believed to belong to a two-wheeler at the scene, which are now being examined as part of the investigation.
The identity of the victim, the motive behind the crime and the exact circumstances leading to the incident remain unknown. Police said further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The shocking discovery has triggered panic among residents of the locality, with police maintaining a heightened presence in the area while forensic and investigative teams continue their work.
The incident has drawn attention to an earlier high-profile case in Karnataka. In August 2025, the dismembered body of a woman was recovered from multiple plastic bags in Tumakuru district. The victim, Lakshmidevamma, was later identified through her severed head. Police subsequently arrested her son-in-law, a dentist, along with two accomplices, alleging they had dismembered the body in an attempt to destroy evidence following a family dispute.
