Tarn Taran, June 27, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
In a deeply saddening development, Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, the sitting AAP MLA from Tarn Taran Vidhan Sabha constituency, breathed his last at the age of 66 in a private hospital in Amritsar. He had been battling illness for a considerable time and was shifted to the facility for specialized treatment last evening.
Dr. Sohal, a physician by profession, transitioned into politics with a mission to serve the people of Punjab. He was widely known for his compassionate approach, simplicity, and dedication to public welfare.
Reacting to the news, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed heartfelt condolences through a message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He lauded Dr. Sohal’s unwavering commitment to the Aam Aadmi Party and his sincere efforts toward the betterment of his constituency and the state at large.
Electoral Success in 2022
Dr. Sohal emerged victorious in the 2022 Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections, defeating Harmeet Singh Sandhu of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) by a clear margin of 13,237 votes. The detailed results were:
| Candidate | Party | Votes Secured |
|---|---|---|
| Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal | Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) | 52,469 |
| Harmeet Singh Sandhu | Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) | 39,232 |
| Dharambir Agnihotri | Indian National Congress | 26,460 |
| Amritpal Singh Mehron | SAD Amritsar | 6,339 |
Notably, Amritpal Singh Mehron, who was later booked for the murder of social media personality Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, had also contested the same election but managed only a marginal vote share.
Dr. Sohal’s demise has left a void not just in Tarn Taran politics, but also in the broader framework of Punjab’s progressive political leadership. His ability to connect with grassroots issues and his legacy of service will be remembered fondly by supporters and constituents alike.
