Chandigarh, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
India pacer Arshdeep Singh is expecting a fiercely competitive Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026 and believes the Ludhiana Lions must hit the ground running when the tournament begins on August 30 at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Chandigarh.
Six teams will compete for the title, with Arshdeep serving as the marquee player for the Ludhiana Lions. The left-arm pacer said he was excited about the opportunity and pleased with the preparations undertaken by the squad.
“It feels great to be part of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League. There is a lot of excitement around the tournament, and I am really looking forward to being part of the Ludhiana Lions and this journey,” Arshdeep said.
He said the team had spent considerable time sharpening its skills, defining individual roles and preparing for different match situations.
“Now, the main focus is to take that confidence from the training ground into the matches,” he added.
Arshdeep also pointed to the healthy competition within the Lions camp, saying players had approached training sessions with seriousness and were preparing for the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket.
“One over, one partnership or one wicket can change the entire game, so the aim is to be ready for every situation and make the right decisions under pressure,” he said.
With several quality players set to feature in the league, Arshdeep expects the competition to be intense from the outset. He said the Lions would avoid looking too far ahead and instead concentrate on executing their plans in each game.
“The competition is going to be tough because every team has quality players. There are no easy games in T20 cricket, so we will have to be at our best from the first match,” Arshdeep said.
The India pacer also underlined the importance of the league as a platform for emerging cricketers from Punjab. He said young players could benefit significantly from sharing a dressing room with experienced teammates and observing their preparation and response to pressure.
“For a youngster, playing alongside experienced players can be a huge advantage. There is so much they can learn just by watching how senior players train, how they prepare before a match, and how they handle pressure when the situation is not going their way,” he said.
Arshdeep believes the league’s success should be judged not only by the eventual champions but also by the number of young players who use the tournament to advance their careers.
“For me, the biggest success of this league will be seeing young players get opportunities and make a name for themselves. Punjab has always produced talented cricketers, and if this league can help more youngsters take that next step in their careers, it will be a great achievement,” he said.
The Ludhiana Lions will look to translate their preparations into strong performances when the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League gets underway.
