A state-level celebration of the Teej festival was organised in Patiala Rural on Saturday, drawing a large gathering of women and local residents and showcasing Punjab’s rich cultural traditions.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill were welcomed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh on their arrival at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann said Teej carries a message of happiness, togetherness, mutual bonding and love among Punjabi women. She described the festival as an integral part of Punjab’s cultural heritage and said such celebrations help younger generations remain connected with their roots.
She said the Punjab Government was organising Teej fairs in villages and cities across the state to preserve and promote Punjabi traditions and cultural heritage.
Dr. Mann also highlighted initiatives of the Bhagwant Mann government, including the Chief Minister Health Scheme, Mohalla Clinics and the Mawan-Dhian Satkar Scheme, saying these programmes had received an encouraging response from people.
She thanked Dr. Balbir Singh for the arrangements made for the celebration and appreciated the attention given to the facilities and safety of women and families attending the event.
Dr. Balbir Singh said the celebration reflected the vision of “Rangla Punjab” through the colours of Punjabi heritage, respect for women and the happiness of people. He said cultural events such as Teej were important for preserving Punjab’s traditions and passing them on to younger generations.
Traditional Teej colours, cultural performances and enthusiastic participation by women added to the festive atmosphere. Phulkari shawls, an important symbol of Punjabi culture, were also distributed among women.
Among those present were Improvement Trust Chairman Harpal Virk, Mayor Kundan Gogia, Advocate Rahul Saini, Additional Deputy Commissioner Anuprita Jauhal, Jasvir Gandhi, Suresh Rai, Charanjit S.K., Jatinder Kaur S.K. and Devinder Kaur, besides a large number of women and residents.
