Patna, August 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
RJD National Working President and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday announced that his party will march to Raj Bhavan, now known as Lok Bhavan, in Patna on Wednesday, August 19, over student-related issues, with the Siwan firing controversy emerging as the central focus of the mobilisation.
Addressing a press conference at his residence on Polo Road, Yadav appealed to students, young people and the general public to join the march and sought a detailed account of the circumstances under which an AK-47 was allegedly used during a student protest in Siwan.
He questioned who authorised the deployment of the weapon and sought details of the chain of command involved.
“Who ordered the firing on the students? From which police unit and armoury was the AK-47 issued? Who authorised its deployment for crowd control? Which unit was the accused constable attached to? Who ordered the police to open fire?” he asked.
Yadav also sought details of the ammunition used during the incident and questioned the role of the Home Department in the deployment and monitoring of weapons. He demanded action against Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha, arguing that merely transferring the officer would not be adequate.
The RJD leader alleged that three people from Siwan suffered gunshot injuries during the protest and claimed that Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary did not visit them while they were undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Patna. He also questioned why the state government had not ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Yadav broadened his criticism to include alleged paper leaks, unemployment, recruitment irregularities and shortcomings in Bihar’s education system. He alleged that the state had become a centre for examination paper leaks and said unemployment, migration, education, healthcare and corruption remained major challenges despite more than two decades of NDA rule.
He also referred to alleged irregularities in cases including the Srijan scam, dustbin scam and estimate scam, accusing the government of failing to take adequate action against corruption.
Targeting Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Yadav alleged that he had misled Parliament by stating that no firing had taken place, while claiming that the Bihar government later acknowledged firing in its affidavit. He accused the Centre and state government of politicising the student issue and misleading the public.
Yadav further alleged that the state government was attempting to weaken the August 19 mobilisation by arresting student leaders. He urged the government to engage with protesting students and address their grievances instead of attempting to suppress their protests.
After the press conference, Yadav visited the Gardanibagh protest site, where candidates associated with the TRE-4 agitation were demonstrating. He met the protesting students and their leaders and called upon the Bihar government to address their demands immediately.
The August 19 march is expected to bring together Opposition concerns over student grievances, examination transparency, recruitment, unemployment and police accountability, with the Siwan firing controversy at the centre of the RJD’s campaign.
