Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda underwent angioplasty at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on August 17 and is currently stable, according to the hospital.
AIIMS said Nadda is under observation in the Department of Cardiology.
“Shri JP Nadda, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare underwent angioplasty on 17th August 2026 and is stable and under observation in the Dept of Cardiology, AIIMS, New Delhi,” the hospital said in an official statement.
Nadda was admitted to AIIMS on the evening of August 13 after complaining of uneasiness. Doctors evaluated his condition and conducted several tests, including a coronary angiography on August 14.
The hospital has not released further details about the angiography findings or disclosed a specific diagnosis.
Angioplasty, also known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries and restore blood flow to the heart. The procedure generally involves guiding a catheter through a blood vessel and using a small balloon to widen the affected artery.
Coronary angiography is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the blood vessels supplying the heart. It involves injecting a contrast dye through a catheter, usually inserted through an artery in the wrist or groin, followed by X-ray imaging to identify blockages or narrowing.
Nadda, who has also served as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president, currently holds the portfolios of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers in the Narendra Modi government.
