Actress Pooja Hegde described her participation as Guest of Honour at the India Day Parade in New York as a moment of “immense pride”, saying it was surreal to see the Indian diaspora come together to celebrate their connection with the country.
Hegde shared several pictures from the event on Instagram, including images of her holding and waving the Indian flag while standing atop a car during the parade. She was also felicitated with a sash identifying her as the “Chief Guest”.
“It was truly an honour and a matter of immense pride to be the Guest of Honour at the India Day Parade in New York,” Hegde wrote.
She said seeing the streets of New York filled with members of the Indian community celebrating their heritage and connection to India was an unforgettable experience.
“Thank you to @federationofindianassociations for the honour and a beautifully organised event along with the officials of New York. To be there, doing this with you all is a privilege I don’t take lightly,” she added, concluding her post with “Jai Hind”.
The event marked the 44th annual India Day Parade in New York City and was held along Madison Avenue in Manhattan. Organised by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), the parade is regarded as one of the largest India Day celebrations outside India.
Actor Adivi Sesh also participated in the event as a chief guest and grand marshal. The lead actors of the television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah also made their first appearance in New York City at the parade.
Hegde’s latest release is Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, a romantic comedy directed by David Dhawan. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Varun Dhawan, Maniesh Paul, Chunky Panday, Jimmy Sheirgill and Mouni Roy. The film is expected to be Dhawan’s final directorial venture.
