Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has received a philanthropic contribution of Rs 25 lakh from Dr Manmeet Brar Bhullar, Principal Acarologist-cum-Head, Department of Entomology, for the upgradation and modernisation of the PAU National Insect Museum and Plant Clinic.
The contribution has been made in loving memory of her father, Late Er. Sarabjit Singh Brar, as a tribute to strengthen the academic and scientific legacy of the Department of Entomology.
The upgraded PAU National Insect Museum will provide improved facilities for the preservation, display and study of insect diversity. It is expected to serve as an important resource for students, researchers, teachers and extension personnel.
The Plant Clinic will strengthen facilities for insect identification, pest diagnosis and scientific advisory services for farmers and other stakeholders. It will be dedicated to Late Dr Amrik Singh Sohi (Retd.), Professor of Entomology (Taxonomy), PAU, in recognition of his contributions to insect taxonomy, teaching and entomological research.
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr S.S. Gosal appreciated Dr Bhullar’s contribution and vision, describing the initiative as an effort that would create a lasting scientific legacy. He said the upgraded facilities would benefit generations of students, researchers, extension personnel and farmers while strengthening the university’s academic, research and public-service infrastructure.
Dr A.S. Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, also commended the contribution and highlighted the importance of a modern insect museum and plant clinic in advancing entomological research and teaching, supporting insect identification and taking scientific knowledge to the farming community.
Dr C.S. Aulakh, Dean, College of Agriculture, said the initiative would provide students with improved learning facilities and greater exposure to entomological resources and research.
