Humid Conditions Persist in Delhi-NCR as Heavy Rain Chances Remain Low

New Delhi, August 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi-NCR continued to experience hot and humid weather on Tuesday as residents awaited a spell of heavy monsoon rain, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting generally cloudy skies and only a slim possibility of significant rainfall in the national Capital.

The weather office has forecast light to moderate rain at some places in Delhi on August 19 and 20. However, the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the city remains low during the week.

Delhi residents were disappointed by the lack of substantial rainfall on Monday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees above normal, while the maximum settled at around 35.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the seasonal average.

High humidity further added to the discomfort. Relative humidity during the past 24 hours ranged between 58 per cent and 84 per cent, while the IMD reported no significant change in minimum or maximum temperatures.

For Tuesday, the IMD has forecast generally cloudy conditions with very little chance of rain. The minimum temperature is expected to remain between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may range from 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. Northwest winds are likely to blow at 10-15 kmph throughout the day.

Very light to light rainfall may occur at isolated locations from the morning through the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued heavy-rainfall alerts for several states and Union Territories, with some areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning. Wind speeds could reach up to 65 kmph in some regions.

Heavy rainfall has been forecast in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Authorities have also issued landslide-related alerts for some hilly areas where intense rainfall is possible and advised residents in vulnerable locations to remain cautious.

Despite the humid weather, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category. Wazirpur recorded the highest AQI among the listed monitoring stations at 186, followed by Anand Vihar at 141, IIT Delhi at 123, Rohini at 119, Chandni Chowk at 117 and CRRI Mathura Road at 111.

Other stations recorded AQI levels of 77 at Burari Crossing, 95 at North Campus, 69 at Pusa, 81 at ITO, 82 at DTU, 81 at Mandir Marg, 96 at R.K. Puram, 97 at Ashok Vihar, 106 at Dwarka Sector 8, 90 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, 100 at Nehru Nagar, 93 at Sonia Vihar, 94 at Vivek Vihar, 68 at JNU, 76 at Commonwealth Sports Complex and 74 in the Cantonment area.
