The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appointed new state in-charges for Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, a day after unveiling a major reshuffle of its national office-bearers.
The appointments, announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, will take effect immediately.
For Uttar Pradesh, the party appointed national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Vinod Tawde as the new state in-charge. National secretary Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel has been named co-in-charge of the state, which is scheduled to go to the polls early next year.
In Punjab, national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Satish Poonia has been appointed state in-charge. Rajya Sabha MP and BJP national headquarters in-charge Tarun Chugh has been given charge of Gujarat.
The BJP said appointments for the remaining states would be announced in due course, with existing arrangements continuing until fresh appointments are made.
The latest organisational changes come a day after Nabin announced the party’s new national team, bringing experienced leaders and new faces into key organisational positions. The restructuring is being seen as part of the BJP’s preparations for upcoming state elections and its longer-term strategy ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Among the key appointments announced on Monday, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was named national treasurer. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was appointed national vice-president, while former Union Minister Smriti Irani returned to a prominent organisational role as national general secretary.
Roop Kumari Choudhary was appointed president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, while former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb was named a national general secretary.
The new state appointments are expected to strengthen coordination between the BJP’s central leadership and its state units as the party prepares for upcoming electoral and organisational challenges.
