Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has urged farmers to shift towards organic farming, stressing that protecting soil fertility is essential to safeguard the health and well-being of future generations.
Addressing the need for sustainable agriculture, Sandhwan called upon the farming community to move away from chemical fertilisers and toxic pesticides. He said preserving healthy and fertile soil was critical for ensuring that future generations have access to safe and productive agricultural land.
The Speaker expressed concern over the increasing commercialisation of agriculture and the excessive use of chemical inputs in pursuit of higher financial returns. He said the indiscriminate use of fertilisers and pesticides had adversely affected the environment and contributed to serious health concerns among people.
Sandhwan particularly referred to the rising incidence of serious diseases, including cancer, and stressed the need for immediate corrective measures in agricultural practices.
He appealed to farmers to adopt organic methods of cultivation and reduce dependence on chemical-based farming. According to him, a transition towards organic agriculture is necessary not only for protecting soil and the environment but also for safeguarding public health.
The Speaker said collective efforts were required to promote sustainable farming practices and create a healthier environment for future generations. He urged farmers to make the shift towards organic agriculture without delay to help build a safer and healthier future for Punjab.
