Amritsar, August 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has announced support for the Punjab bandh called by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha on August 21, 2026, demanding the release of Bandi Singhs. In view of the bandh, the SGPC has decided to defer its scheduled meeting of the Antarig Committee by a day.
The meeting, originally scheduled for August 21, will now be held on August 22 at 11 a.m. at the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar, Advocate Dhami said in a statement.
Dhami said the SGPC had consistently worked for the release of Bandi Singhs and would continue to extend full support to every peaceful struggle undertaken for their release.
He alleged that instead of acknowledging the sentiments of the Sikh community regarding the issue, the government was attempting to suppress the voices of those campaigning for the release of Bandi Singhs.
“Every justice-loving person should oppose such an approach,” Dhami said, urging support for the August 21 bandh.
He further announced that the SGPC headquarters and all institutions under its administration would remain closed on August 21 in solidarity with the Punjab bandh.
The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha has called the bandh to press for the release of Sikh prisoners, including those who have completed their sentences, and to protest against what it has described as government action against those raising the issue.
