The Tamil Nadu government has directed all state government employees and officials covered under the amended service rules to submit comprehensive details of their assets and liabilities by October 31, strengthening its efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public administration.
The government has formally notified the deadline and filing procedure following an amendment to the relevant rules in January. Employees will have to declare their financial position as of December 31, 2025.
Under the revised system, employees will no longer need to submit asset declarations personally at their offices or use printed forms. Instead, the entire declaration must be filed digitally through the Tamil Nadu government’s Integrated Financial and Human Resources Management System (IFHRMS) portal.
The declaration must include details of houses, residential and commercial plots, agricultural land and other immovable properties owned by the employee. Properties registered in the names of family members must also be disclosed.
Employees are also required to report movable assets, including jewellery, motor vehicles, bank deposits and investments, along with other assets and financial interests covered under the applicable service rules.
The disclosure will also cover loans and other financial liabilities incurred by employees, including all categories of borrowing falling within the government’s prescribed reporting requirements.
Officials have been advised to ensure that the information submitted through the IFHRMS portal is complete and accurate. The digital system is expected to streamline the filing process while enabling the government to maintain a centralised and updated record of employees’ financial interests.
The mandatory disclosure mechanism is aimed at strengthening oversight of asset acquisition by public servants and helping authorities identify significant discrepancies between declared wealth and known sources of income.
It will also assist in examining potential conflicts of interest and ensuring compliance with government service rules.
The latest directive reinforces the Tamil Nadu government’s policy of requiring public servants to periodically disclose their financial position. All employees and officials covered by the amended rules must complete the online declaration by the October 31 deadline.
