Chennai, September 14, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Superstar Rajinikanth’s publicist Riaz K Ahmed has dismissed a media report claiming that the actor had urged the makers of his upcoming action entertainer Jailer 2 to seek a U/A certificate for the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial.

Sharing the report on his X timeline, Ahmed clarified that the claim was untrue.

“This is untrue. Jailer 2 updates will be given by the production house as per their schedule,” he wrote.

The report had claimed that censor board officials were considering an ‘A’ certificate for Jailer 2 because of its violent content. It further suggested that Rajinikanth had asked the makers to pursue a U/A certificate so that viewers below 18 would also be able to watch the film.

Rajinikanth’s team has now made it clear that there is no truth to the report.

Jailer 2 is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15 this year and is among the most anticipated films of the year.

When the release date was announced, the makers unveiled a teaser featuring Vinayakan, who is seen threatening Rajinikanth’s character Muthuvel Pandian.

“You can’t be at peace after killing me. There’s a big world behind me, Jailer! This is a huge network. You won’t know who is coming (for you), when and how. Your life will turn into hell,” his character says.

The teaser then introduces Rajinikanth in a stylish entry and offers glimpses of several other characters.

The sequel has generated considerable anticipation following the success of the first Jailer, which emerged as a blockbuster and reportedly grossed around Rs 650 crore worldwide. The film also opened strongly, with overseas distributor Ayngaran International claiming that it earned Rs 33 crore on its opening day, described as the highest first-day collection of Rajinikanth’s career at the time.

The makers wrapped up shooting for Jailer 2 in April this year and shared pictures from a cake-cutting ceremony marking the completion of filming.

Shooting for the sequel began in Chennai on March 10 last year before the production moved to other locations. Actress Ramya Krishnan also shared an update from her first day of shooting in Attapaadi, Kerala, linking the occasion with the 26th anniversary of Padayappa.

Ramya reprises her role as Vijaya Pandian, also known as Viji, the wife of Rajinikanth’s character. Actress Mirnaa, who plays his daughter-in-law Swetha Pandian, is also expected to have a pivotal role.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi have also shot for the sequel, while Anirudh returns as music composer after his work on the first film became a key part of its success.
