India’s junior men’s hockey team clinched a record-extending sixth Junior Hockey Asia Cup title with a commanding 4-1 victory over South Korea in the final at the Moqi Training Base on Sunday.
The triumph marked India’s fourth consecutive continental title and also secured the team’s qualification for the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup.
India dominated the final from the outset, with Ajeet Yadav, Anmol Ekka, Prabhdeep Singh and Ashu Maurya finding the net. Lee Minhyeok scored South Korea’s lone goal.
Yadav opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Ekka doubled India’s advantage in the 13th minute, giving the defending champions a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Prabhdeep extended the lead in the 21st minute as India continued to control proceedings. The team went into the half-time break with a comfortable 3-0 advantage.
South Korea, the 2000 champions, needed a strong comeback in the second half but struggled to break India’s dominance. Maurya added another goal in the 50th minute to put India 4-0 ahead with just 10 minutes remaining.
Minhyeok pulled one back for South Korea in the 54th minute, but the goal proved insufficient as India held on to secure a comprehensive 4-1 win and another continental crown.
India had previously won the Junior Hockey Asia Cup in 2015, 2023 and 2024, and the latest victory extended their dominance in the competition. India are now clear at the top of the title standings, while Pakistan have won the tournament three times. South Korea and Malaysia have one title each.
Earlier, India’s junior women’s team also won the Women’s Junior Hockey Asia Cup, defeating China 1-0 in the final. The victory was India’s third consecutive title, putting them level with China and South Korea as the most successful teams in the women’s competition.
