Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring equal access to education, the Punjab Government has strengthened scholarship support for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, with Rs 13.30 crore released for 94,092 beneficiaries under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme during 2025-26.
Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government was taking steps to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent children from pursuing their education.
Sharing details of the scheme, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the government has proposed an allocation of Rs 40 crore for 2026-27 to benefit 1,17,142 students, ensuring continued support for SC students at the school level.
The minister said the scholarship scheme was helping children from economically weaker SC families continue their studies without financial stress. She emphasised that education is a key foundation for social empowerment and can play a transformative role in creating equal opportunities.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the Punjab Government was pursuing result-oriented initiatives focused on the educational and human development needs of marginalised communities. Expanding access to education for SC students, she added, was an important step towards building an inclusive, progressive and Rangla Punjab.
The minister said the department would continue to focus on timely implementation of the scholarship scheme, creating greater awareness among eligible families and ensuring seamless disbursement of benefits.
She reiterated that the government remained committed to empowering young people through education and ensuring that every deserving student receives the support needed to build a brighter future.
