The Punjab Government has gazetted the promotion of 70 Punjab Police Inspectors to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), comprising 50 officers from the District Cadre and 20 from the Armed Cadre.
The promotions have been made to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in Level 18 of the revised pay scales — Rs 56,100-1,77,500 — on the basis of recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee held on May 23, 2025.
The promotion order itself is dated June 6, 2025, while it was published in the Punjab Government Gazette on September 11, 2026.
Under the conditions stipulated in the order, financial benefits of the DSP post will become admissible to the respective officers from the date they assume charge of the promoted post. The officers will remain on probation for one year.
The promotions are also subject to the final decisions in various cases pending before courts and reconsideration on the basis of the Supreme Court decision concerning the 85th Constitutional Amendment. The order further provides for reconsideration of the promotions if there is any change in the seniority list of Inspectors.

When Do Promotions Take Effect?
The government order carrying these promotions is dated June 6, 2025, while it was published in the Punjab Government Gazette dated September 11, 2026.
The notification does not state that September 11, 2026 is the uniform date from which all promoted officers will receive the financial benefits of the DSP rank.
Instead, it specifically provides that the financial benefits of promotion will be admissible from the date on which the respective officer assumes charge of the DSP post.
The promoted officers will also have a probation period of one year.
