Bathinda, September 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Students of the Giani Zail Singh School of Architecture and Planning (GZSSAP) at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, have brought laurels to the university by securing top honours at the international ‘The Unreal House’ Design Competition organised by MindRain.

A team of three B.Architecture students from the 2025 batch — Komal, Khushdeep Kaur and Mehakpreet Kaur Gill — won the first prize in the prestigious competition. The winning team received a cash prize of Rs 11,000 along with certificates of excellence.

Their project, titled ‘The Amphibious Eco-Pod’, was selected by an international jury after a rigorous evaluation. The design presents a futuristic approach to sustainable aquatic living through an amphibious floating home secured by a high-tension cable tethering system and powered by integrated renewable energy mechanisms.

The project seeks to address future housing challenges by combining sustainability, resilience, adaptability and technological innovation in an aquatic living environment.

Another MRSPTU team comprising Deepam Goyal and Ratti Kanishika Rajput received an Honourable Mention, along with certificates of appreciation, for their submission in another category of the competition.

Their design drew inspiration from bionic architecture, with the built form conceived as an adaptation of a jellyfish. The project demonstrated the students’ ability to translate natural forms, biological principles and ecological characteristics into contemporary architectural solutions.

The teams were guided by Faculty In-charge Ar. Kapil Arora, who encouraged and mentored the students to participate in national and international design competitions. He appreciated their dedication, creativity and commitment to design excellence.

Dr Ripu Daman Singh, Head of GZSSAP, congratulated the students and said their international recognition reflected the quality of architectural education at the university and the creative and professional potential of its students.

MRSPTU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma also met the students and faculty members and congratulated them on the achievement. He said such accomplishments reinforce the university’s commitment to nurturing talent, creativity, innovation and professional excellence.

Registrar Prof. Paramjeet Singh extended his congratulations and best wishes to the award-winning students and faculty members for their achievement.
