The Punjab Government will host four performances of the Hindi stage production ‘Hamare Ram’ at the Dasmesh Auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar on September 16 and 17, MLA from Amritsar Central Dr Ajay Gupta said on Sunday.
The initiative, being organised under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, aims to promote the state’s cultural heritage and traditional values. The play, based on the Ramayana, is part of a wider programme featuring 41 performances across 12 cities in Punjab.
Addressing a press conference at the District Administrative Complex, Dr Gupta said two shows would be held each day. On September 16 and 17, the first show will run from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., while the second will be staged from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Entry to all four shows will be free, with 750 spectators allowed per performance. Passes can be booked through the BookMyShow app and will also be available through the Tourism Department in Amritsar, the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and the Sanatan Seva Samiti.
Dr Gupta appealed to residents to attend the performances with their families, saying the government was working to promote cultural heritage and traditional values while respecting all faiths.
Pranav Dhawan, Majha Zone in-charge of Sanatan Seva Samiti, said ‘Hamare Ram’ had received appreciation in India and abroad, particularly among young audiences. He said elaborate lighting and sound arrangements had been made for the Amritsar shows.
Produced by Felicity Theatre, the production features Bollywood actor Ashutosh Rana as Ravana and Rahul R. Bhuchar as Lord Ram. The production combines visuals, aerial acrobatics and modern stage technology to present the Ramayana through a contemporary theatrical format.
Dhawan said the play explores lesser-known perspectives of the epic, beginning with Luv and Kush confronting Lord Ram following the separation from Mata Sita. The story is presented through the perspective of the Sun God, offering audiences a distinct interpretation of the revered narrative.
The play has already been staged in Mohali, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Batala, Gurdaspur and Pathankot. Following Amritsar, performances are scheduled at Punjabi University in Patiala on September 18 and 19, Khanna on September 20, Ludhiana on September 25 and 26, and SLIET, Longowal, Sangrur, on September 27.
SDM Amritsar-1 Alka Kalia and Tourism Department officials were also present at the press conference.
