A retired Indian Air Force officer and Kargil War veteran has alleged that he was attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant during a dispute over parking at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram, suffering serious head injuries and a fractured elbow.
Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who participated in the Indian Air Force’s ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ during the 1999 Kargil War, made the allegations in a complaint submitted to the police. He has also alleged that the attendant threatened to kill him and claimed that he did not receive adequate assistance from local police after the incident.
According to Gupta, he visited the Gonzo restaurant at Magnum Global Park with his family for dinner on Thursday night. After dropping his family near the venue at around 8 p.m., he went to park his vehicle.
Gupta alleged that parking personnel directed him between different facilities, including the valet area, basement and multilevel parking, before eventually refusing to park the vehicle.
He further alleged that while he was reversing his car, one of the attendants struck its windshield, apparently attempting to damage it. Speaking to NDTV, Gupta said he got out of the vehicle to object, after which the situation escalated.
Gupta alleged that the attendant picked up an iron rod and struck him twice — once on his hand and once on his head. He said the assault caused heavy bleeding and that the accused also threatened his life.
The veteran further alleged that security guards and other parking employees did not immediately intervene. He said he contacted the police helpline, but police personnel arrived nearly 30 minutes later. A restaurant chef eventually intervened and helped prevent further escalation.
Gupta was subsequently taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his elbow injury. He said plates were used to stabilise the fractured bone.
He has also alleged that the hospital’s medico-legal case report did not accurately record his injuries, claiming it omitted the head bleeding and elbow injury.
Gupta has sought strict action against the accused and urged police to register an FIR for attempted murder and causing grievous hurt.
Operation Safed Sagar was the Indian Air Force’s high-altitude air campaign during the 1999 Kargil conflict to target Pakistani infiltrators occupying Indian positions in the Kargil sector.
