India’s leading para badminton players Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam delivered strong performances at the Japan Para Badminton International 2026 in Tokyo, with Bhagat winning a gold and a silver medal, while Kadam reached the landmark of 100 career medals.

Bhagat defeated compatriot U Kumar 21-16, 21-8 in the Men’s Singles SL3 final to claim the gold medal. He later combined with Kadam to win silver in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU5, where they went down to Indonesia’s Hikmat Ramdani and Fredy Setiawan.

Bhagat said he was delighted to finish the tournament with two medals and credited his patience and focus for helping him overcome a challenging singles final.

“The singles final was challenging, especially after U Kumar got the early lead, but I stayed patient and focused on my game. Once I found my rhythm, I was able to take control,” he said.

Kadam, meanwhile, reached the significant milestone of 100 career medals during the tournament. He also won silver in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU5 and added another silver in the Men’s Singles SL4 category.

In the singles final, Kadam was defeated by France’s Lucas Mazur 21-8, 21-16. Mazur dominated the opening game, while Kadam mounted a stronger challenge in the second before the Frenchman closed out the match.

Reflecting on his milestone, Kadam said reaching 100 medals was a special moment after 12 years in para badminton.

“There have been many ups and downs, victories and defeats, but every match has taught me something,” he said, adding that the achievement would motivate him to work harder and pursue more success for India.
