Amritsar Soormas were crowned the inaugural Sher-E-Punjab T20 League champions after defeating Ludhiana Lions by eight wickets in a commanding final at the IS Bindra Stadium here on Monday.
Chasing 143 for victory, the Soormas made light work of the target, reaching 144/2 in just 16.4 overs with 20 balls to spare.
Sahaj Dhawan anchored the successful chase with an unbeaten 63 off 53 balls, while captain Naman Dhir provided early momentum with a blistering 29 off 12 deliveries, including four sixes. Rahul Kumar then finished the job, remaining unbeaten on 42 off 30 balls as Amritsar completed a comfortable victory.
The Soormas had laid the groundwork for the triumph with an impressive bowling effort that restricted Ludhiana Lions to 142 in their allotted 20 overs. Leg-spinner Mayank Markande was the standout bowler, claiming 3/17 to earn the Player of the Match award in the title clash.
While Markande produced a decisive performance with the ball in the final, Dhir’s explosive batting throughout the tournament earned him the Player of the Series award.
Dhir had smashed 173 runs off just 64 balls during the league stage before producing another match-winning performance in the semifinal. His 91 off 37 deliveries powered Amritsar into the final and underlined his ability to change the course of games in a matter of overs.
His aggressive starts became a defining feature of the Soormas’ campaign, repeatedly setting the tempo for their powerful batting line-up.
In the final, however, Amritsar’s victory was built on a collective effort. Markande’s disciplined bowling kept Ludhiana in check, Dhawan provided composure during the chase and Dhir’s early assault ensured the required run rate never became a concern.
The emphatic win saw Amritsar Soormas etch their name into the record books as the maiden champions of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.
