Telangana Police have facilitated the refund of Rs 139.68 crore to 24,189 cyber fraud victims so far in 2026, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) Director Shikha Goel said on Sunday.
At the recently held National Lok Adalat in Hyderabad, the TGCSB, in coordination with the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, banks, digital payment service providers, police commissionerates and district police units, facilitated the refund of Rs 42.28 crore to 3,896 victims.
Cyberabad emerged as the top-performing unit, securing refunds of Rs 14.19 crore for 942 victims. The TGCSB facilitated Rs 10.55 crore for 41 victims, while Malkajgiri ranked third with refunds of Rs 5.27 crore for 1,024 victims. Hyderabad Police facilitated Rs 5.02 crore for 530 victims, while Suryapet helped recover Rs 0.76 crore for 34 victims.
The bureau is also using the Money Restoration Module (MRM), launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2026. Operational in Telangana since June, the module enables refunds without requiring court orders. As of September 12, Rs 27.23 crore had been refunded to 9,355 victims through the MRM.
Through the Lok Adalat and MRM mechanisms, 13,251 victims have received financial relief this year, Goel said.
Since its inception, the TGCSB has facilitated refunds totalling Rs 514.93 crore to 73,204 cyber fraud victims.
Goel said prompt reporting, coordination with banks, judicial support and effective use of recovery mechanisms had helped strengthen financial relief for victims.
The TGCSB urged cybercrime victims to use the MRM mechanism and advised citizens never to share OTPs, PINs, passwords or banking details with unknown persons. It also cautioned against suspicious links and advised people to verify customer-care numbers only through official websites.
In case of cyber fraud, victims should immediately call the 1930 Cyber Helpline or file a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal within the “Golden Hour”, as prompt reporting improves the chances of freezing and recovering the defrauded funds.
