Siwan AK-47 Firing: Policeman Suspended After Viral Video, Injured Protesters Stable

Patna, July 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A police personnel has been suspended in connection with the alleged firing of an AK-47 rifle during the Bihar Bandh protests in Siwan on July 25, after a video purportedly showing the incident surfaced on social media.

The action was taken following directions from Bihar Police Headquarters, which took serious note of the footage showing the police constable allegedly using the firearm during clashes with protesters.

The statewide shutdown witnessed demonstrations by student organisations across several districts, with clashes reported between protesters and police at multiple locations. In Siwan, the situation escalated after a confrontation between demonstrators and security personnel, leading to the use of force to control the crowd.

Police officials said maintaining law and order remains the force’s primary responsibility and any violation of prescribed procedures is treated seriously. A departmental inquiry has been initiated, and further action will be decided based on the findings.

Meanwhile, the condition of three injured protesters undergoing treatment at Jayaprabha Medanta Hospital in Patna is reported to be stable.

Among those injured is 15-year-old Md Arif, who was allegedly hit by a bullet in the neck during the unrest. According to his family, Arif works at a local shop and was returning home after closing it during the bandh when he sustained the injury.

Doctors removed the bullet during surgery, and his condition is now stable, officials said.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the findings of the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the firing. The investigation will examine whether the use of the firearm followed police protocols and whether further disciplinary or legal action is required.

The violence in Siwan broke out during a student-led protest march towards Gandhi Maidan as part of the Bihar Bandh. The situation worsened after an altercation between protesters and police, resulting in clashes involving stone-pelting and the use of force.
