A 26-year-old homemaker allegedly died by suicide following a video call with her husband, during which she is believed to have confronted him over an alleged extramarital relationship, police said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Sanika Gowda. According to preliminary investigations, she took the extreme step at her parents’ residence in Rayasandra under the Parappana Agrahara police limits in the early hours of Sunday.
Police sources said Sanika had reportedly been distressed over her husband’s alleged relationship with another woman. Investigators believe her husband, Sharan Gowda, had allegedly sent her an audio recording of his conversation with the woman, following which the couple spoke over a video call.
Soon after the conversation ended, Sanika allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan. The incident reportedly occurred around 3 a.m.
The tragedy unfolded in the presence of the couple’s seven-month-old child. Her brother discovered her body after going to check on her room.
Sanika and Sharan Gowda, a native of Chikkamagaluru, had been married for around one-and-a-half years. She had been staying at her parental home for postnatal care before the incident.
Police have registered a case at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, including allegations of marital discord linked to the husband’s alleged extramarital affair.
The body has been shifted to St. John’s Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
