Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to participate enthusiastically in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign ahead of Independence Day, calling for the national flag to be displayed at every household with pride, dignity and respect.
Addressing the nation during the 136th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister said August 15 is a day of immense pride and gratitude for Indians and an occasion to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
“In just a few weeks, we will celebrate the grand festival of our Independence. August 15 is a day of pride for every Indian. It is a day to remember the countless heroes who dedicated their all for the freedom of Bharat Mata,” he said.
PM Modi said the Tricolour represents the ideals enshrined in the Constitution and urged people to continue carrying forward the spirit of the campaign, which has gained widespread public participation in recent years.
He said the sight of the national flag at homes and streets during the campaign reflects the country’s collective patriotic spirit and appealed to citizens to once again make ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ a mass movement.
The Prime Minister also invited people to share their suggestions and ideas for the country’s progress through the MyGov platform ahead of Independence Day, saying he looks forward to receiving citizens’ inputs every year.
During the programme, PM Modi paid tribute to former President and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary, which falls on July 27. He said teaching and inspiring young minds remained closest to Dr Kalam’s heart.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the upcoming festival of Guru Purnima, describing it as an opportunity to express gratitude towards teachers, mentors and parents for their role in shaping individuals and guiding future generations.
