Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said terrorism has become part of Pakistan’s state policy and alleged that the distinction between the country’s military and militant groups has disappeared.
Addressing the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations in Drass, Singh said India would no longer differentiate between terrorists and those who support them, asserting that any threat to the country’s borders would receive a strong response.
“While India looks for innovation, Pakistan is looking for infiltration; while India designs chips, Pakistan designs terrorism,” Singh said, adding that the only possible discussion with Pakistan would be regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which India claims as its territory.
The Defence Minister also referred to Operation Sindoor, saying India had struck the sponsors of terrorism and warned that any future misadventure would be dealt with firmly.
Paying tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War, Singh said the conflict demonstrated the courage and determination of Indian troops who fought under extremely difficult conditions at high altitudes.
He recalled that Indian soldiers overcame major strategic disadvantages while fighting at heights of around 15,000 feet in temperatures dropping to minus 40 degrees Celsius. Singh said 546 soldiers were martyred during the conflict and their sacrifices remain a source of inspiration for the nation.
Remembering heroes such as Captain Manoj Pandey and Captain Vikram Batra, the Defence Minister said the stories of their bravery would continue to inspire future generations.
Singh also highlighted India’s progress in defence self-reliance, saying the country has moved from importing a major share of its defence equipment to manufacturing a significant portion domestically. He said the government’s goal of making India self-reliant by 2040 includes economic growth, strategic strength and social harmony.
He urged citizens to preserve the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice represented by the armed forces.
